(ECNS) -- Media reports saying that one of the navigation locks at Gezhouba Dam in Hubei province needs rapid maintenance due to severe leakages are misleading, zgjtb.com reported, citing a member of staff from the Three Gorges Navigation Bureau.
Similar to a washer in a tap, the water stopper at the bottom of a navigation lock gate is also made of rubber, with a general service life of six years. Thus, current maintenance is simply part of regular operations to replace an expired water stopper, the staff member explained.
Previous reports stated that Gezhouba Dam had a horizontal crack.
Maintenance is expected to last five days, starting at 13:00 on January 5 and lasting till the same time on January 10.
