(ECNS) - The environmentally friendly fireworks used during APEC last November will dominate the market in Beijing for the upcoming Spring Festival, China's Lunar New Year, the Beijing News reports.
The fireworks combine slight-smoke propellants and sulfur-free explosives. This new pyrotechnic composition can greatly reduce smog and harmful gas emissions, reducing propellants by 60 percent.
The fireworks were used during the welcoming banquet for the 22nd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting in Beijing.
Panda Fireworks, a major fireworks seller, said the green technology is being used in its entire line of products, to make them "sulfur-free, low-sulfur, slight-smoke and light-smoke." The adoption of the new technology will not drive up prices though, the company added.
The company also said that sales of fireworks may decrease by 30 percent this year, as more people are increasingly aware of air pollution.
2015 is the Year of the Goat according to the Chinese zodiac calendar.
