(ECNS) -- A series of photos showing an apparent beggar counting out money to buy an iPhone 6 went viral on the Chinese Internet over the weekend, though he did not actually purchase the item, Southern Metropolis Daily has reported.
On January 9, the man entered Wanshun Mobile Phone Store in Wenzhou, eastern China's Zhejiang province, and demanded to "buy an iPhone with a large screen," the newspaper said.
A member of staff, surnamed Bao, showed the gentleman a white iPhone 6 Plus, alongside an iPad.
Bao said the customer checked his wallet, but only had 1,600 yuan ($258). He then left the store after about ten minutes.
Pictures of the man were uploaded to the Internet, prompting jokes and debate about whether a beggar or a white-collar worker earned the most.
Bao admitted he was not sure if the man was a beggar or not.
