(ECNS) - A Hong Kong man was caught smuggling 94 iPhone 6 and iPhone 5S handsets at the Huanggang checkpoint of Shenzhen Customs in South China's Guangdong province on Sunday.
Wearing a red sports jacket and black trousers, the man aroused the suspicion of customs officials with his stiff body movements.
He also triggered the alarm system when passing through the metal detector at Futian Checkpoint Station.
Customs officials found 94 iPhone handsets worth 300,000 yuan ($48,370) wrapped around his body.
Travel records also showed that the man had been stopped many times in the past for carrying banned items.
The case was transferred to anti-smuggling agencies for further investigation.
Mainland residents are allowed to bring personal products worth less than 5,000 yuan into the mainland, but cell phones are included on the list of 20 must-pay-duty items, meaning one must pay tax for even one cell phone.
Shenzhen Customs has frequently apprehended suspects involving cross-border smuggling of new iPhones at Luohu checkpoint.
