(ECNS) -- China had 557 million mobile Internet users by December 2014, accounting for 85.8 percent of the overall Internet population, according to China Internet Network Information Center.
In its 35th statistic report on Internet Development in China, the center said mobile Internet users grew by 5.4 percent in the first half of 2014 and by 5.6 percent in the second half.
Among the country's Internet population, mobile Internet users took up 24 percent in 2007 and increased to 81 percent in 2013.
The report stated that the growth of China's mobile Internet users has become stable for several reasons.
Cell phone penetration in the country fluctuated from 94.5 percent at the beginning of 2014 to 90.8 percent at the end of the year, leaving little room for further growth.
Taxation policy changes and governmental requirements of mobile operators to reduce costs also slowed the promotion momentum of smartphones, weakening the increase of mobile Internet users.
