(ECNS) - A video purporting to explain the "Chinese Dream" to English-speaking foreigners has become a sensation on the Chinese Internet, getting 750,000 hits on the popular video platform Youku.com, as well as 10,000 comments.
The video explains that China is an ancient and youthful country, developing fast but with disparities, full of opportunities and untold challenges.
Footage of blue skies and green fields is accompanied by shots of traffic jams and a coal plant billowing heavy smoke.
The words "Chinese dream" appear six times in the 3-minute video, made in English with Chinese subtitles.
Ordinary people's dreams, from running restaurants to marrying beautiful women, are also featured in the video, which emphasizes that the country's 1.3 billion people "all have their dreams."
The video, which doesn't cite an official production company, concludes with "The Communist Party of China is with you along the way."
The name at the end of the video is "Fuxinglushang" (The Road to Rejuvenation), also the name of major road in Beijing, according to the Beijing News.
Zhang Taofu, dean of the Journalism Department at Fudan University, said the quality of the video is high, both in form and content.
People's Daily, the flagship newspaper of the CPC, said on its microblog that the video was made in 2013 after President Xi Jinping came to power, but that it was not actively promoted then.
The concept of the "Chinese dream," first mentioned in a speech by Xi two weeks after he was elected general secretary of the CPC Central Committee in November 2012, is considered a central mission of the new leadership.
