(ECNS) -- ADP Ingeniérie (ADPI) and Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) have unveiled the concept design for Terminal 1 at Bejing's new airport, to be built in the city's southern Daxing District, which borders Hebei province.
The proposed scheme is based on APDI's initial bid-winning design and developed under the leadership of the Beijing new airport headquarters (BNAH).
The terminal, to take the shape of a huge mutated starfish, will feature an integrated multi-modal transport center with direct links to local and national rail services.
Following completion of the concept design stage, the project is now being led by a local team under the BNAH.
According to a press statement by Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA), it would be "adaptable and sustainable, operating in many different configurations dependent on varying aircraft and passenger traffic throughout the day."
The airport is designed to handle 72 million passengers, 2 million tonnes of cargo and mail, and 620,000 flights by 2025, according to the National Development and Reform Commission, which approved the plan on Dec 15.
