(ECNS) - The design for Terminal 1 of Beijing's new airport has not been finished, the Beijing News reports, citing sources at Capital Airports Holding Company.
Some conceptual designs of the airport to be built in the city's southern Daxing District, which borders Hebei province, have gone viral on the internet. The designs depict a terminal in the shape of a large mutated starfish.
However, "No design has been released from any official channel," according to a person in charge, who said the process had not been completed.
It's not conclusive what the new airport will look like, and the plans released online can't be verified, the newspaper says.
According to the National Development and Reform Commission, which approved the plan on Dec 15, the new airport would handle 72 million passengers, 2 million tons of cargo and mail, and 620,000 flights by 2025.
