(ECNS) -- Beijing's tourism authorities have developed detailed safety measures to prevent stampedes during the upcoming Spring Festival and Lantern Festival, the Beijing News reported on Thursday.
Large-scale celebrations including temple fairs, lantern shows, performances and carnivals will attract many visitors during the Spring Festival, China's Lunar New Year, and the Lantern Festival, which falls on the 15th day of the first lunar month.
Zhao Guangchao, a representative of Beijing's Commission of Tourism Development, says that in order to avoid stampedes, they have detailed visitor density requirements – less than 0.7, one and two square meters per person indoors, outdoors and on the streets, respectively.
Once the density is beyond these requirements, police will be called and visitors will be diverted.
Also, free giveaways or souvenirs are not allowed to be handed out at temple fairs.
