(ECNS) - Demolition took place Tuesday on Tengtou Pavilion, designed by an award-wining architect and the only village pavilion selected by the 2010 Shanghai Expo.
Tengtou Pavilion was a two-floor standalone unit situated in the Urban Best Practices Area within the Puxi Site, covering a total area of 1,500 square meters. The structure is 13 meters tall, 53 meters long, and 20 meters wide.
The pavilion was a representative work of Wang Shu, the first Chinese winner of the Pritzker Prize, the most prestigious global award for architecture.
The pavilion features Ningbo regional cultural characteristics using local bricks and tiles.
One netizen said: "If it is demolished in this way, the pavilion will be in ruins and the materials cannot be recycled."
"Every brick and tile is a witness to history and should be reused rather than destroyed in the demolition," said another.
Experts are also appealing to local government to honor the master work, even if it is just a temporary pavilion.
