(ECNS) -- The Internet has become the major source for over 90 percent of college students and white-collar workers to access information, people.com.cn reported on Tuesday, citing survey results from Horizon Research Consultancy Group.

Horizon Research conducted its survey on how people access information in 30 cities and ten counties during February 2015, with 10,720 respondents.

Data shows that 98.3 percent of white-collar workers and 97.9 percent of college students use the Internet, while 90.7 percent of white-collar workers and 96.4 per cent of college students mainly get information from it.

The average time college students and white-collar workers spend surfing the Internet per day is 6.1 and 6.3 hours respectively, according to the survey.

It also found that people tend to use mobile Internet more often than personal computers (PCs).

In terms of mobile Internet, getting information and learning and working are also the two major activities for the large majority of white-collar workers (71.2 percent) and college students (69.5 percent).

WeChat and Weibo, two popular Chinese social platforms, are also becoming important sources of information.

White-collar workers and college students rank news as their second favorite content on WeChat.

Of all the content on Weibo, 67 percent of white-collar workers and 66 percent of college students prefer to read news.
