The ongoing China International Magic Carnival in Beijing has attracted more than 50 magicians from 22 countries and regions around the globe to show, compete and exchange their skills. And on Saturday, top close-up magicians put on a battle of magic for fans.
Here's the real test for magicians - the close-up magic show.
There's no fancy stage design or dramatic plot to fool people watching the show. The magicians were only two meters away from the cameras. They stay right next to the audience and entertain them with simple trinkets such as cards and coins.
Swedish magician Tom Stone said, "The audience is important, the connection to the audience is important. I do the best I can, and if I'm lucky, they will like it."
The audience matters. This was also agreed on by Domenico Dante, president of the International Federation of Magic Societies.
The close-up magic show was just a part of the First China Beijing International Magic Carnival. Besides eye-dazzling magic performances, the three-day carnival also features forums and competitions. Audiences can also find out some of the secrets of magic at the special magic performance tool exhibition.
