In China's northeastern Jilin province, as the winter fishing season on Chagan Lake enters its second day, local fishermen have already caught nearly 100,000 kilograms of fish.
The four fishing teams continue to approach the center of the lake expecting to reel in more and bigger fish. A large 2,000 meter long net has been cast under the ice and it will stay for more than 2 hours before being hauled back in. The head fishermen says the single net yield this year is expected to be higher than last year.
Winter fishing on the Chagan Lake in Jilin dates back more than 10,000 years. In 2005, a Guinness World Record was set at the lake when a single net yielded 10,500 kilograms of fish. The record was broken with a 168,000 kilogram haul in 2008.
