Another Spanish tenor is on his way to the capital to perform at the Meet in Beijing Arts Festival. Jose (Hose-EH) Carreras will headline the festival, which also features dance, drama, and Latin American art.
The grandest spring arts festival in Asia, Meet In Beijing has been held successfully for twelve years. Themed this year with Romantic Spring, the festival has invited more than 60 performing groups from home and abroad, and will present well over 100 shows.
Renowned Spanish singer Jose Carreras will grace the opening ceremony at the National Centre for the Performing Arts on April 27th. Wrapping things up a month later will be the celebrated drama "Bailu Plain", starring Pu Cunxin and Guo Da.
A vocal recital by soprano Renee Fleming will lead the classical music section. There will also be Spanish and Flamenco dance performances from Camerata Lirica de Espana.
Qin Wenhuan, vice president of China Arts & Entertainment Group, said, "The Latin America Arts Festival will feature performances and exhibitions mainly presenting the culture and art of the eighteen Latin American countries. In the next three years, the Latin America Arts Festival will be a big part of Meet In Beijing, serving as the bridge to promote communication between China and Latin America."
Major events will also include the Strawberry Music festival and the Chaoyang Pop Music Festival, which are both sure to ignite the musical enthusiasm of younger generations.
After more than a decade of development, the Meet In Beijing festival has truly grown into a major arts extravaganza. It runs from April 28th to May 29th.
