A performing season featuring Chinese traditional quyi performances (narrative storytelling performances) such as crosstalk, dramas and gushu (storytelling accompanied by drumming) will be staged at Beijing Cultural Palace of Nationalities Theatre from September 17 to 26.

According to Jiang Kun, chairman of the China Quyi Artists Association, a total of 10 performances in various quyi genres will be staged.

Provincial cultural heritages such as Yangzhou pinghua (storytelling in the Yangzhou dialect) from Jiangsu Province, Shaoxing lianhualao (a singing form accompanied by music played on various instruments) from Zhejiang Province, and Lu'an gushu from Shanxi Province, will also make an appearance.

Jiang stated that since preparation work began in April, many local quyi troupes have come looking to join the performing season.

A poem written by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 1990 memorializing Jiao Yulu, a Party official who became a symbol of honesty in government in China, set to Henan zhuizi, a type of traditional music from Henan, will also be performed.
