Continuing its series of local cultural exhibitions that began in 2011, the Times Museum in Beijing opened its Shu Culture in the Clouds exhibition on Friday. According to the museum the exhibition aims to give visitors an overview of the ancient and modern culture of Sichuan Province.

Famous for its ancient Sanxingdui and Jinsha archeological sites near the province's capital of Chengdu, Sichuan boasts a cultural heritage that dates back to 2500 BC.

On the modern side of things, in addition to exhibiting the region's intangible cultural heritage, the exhibition also features contemporary art by local artists.

Focusing on depicting the lives and culture of local people, as well as the region's distinctive landscape, most of the paintings at the exhibition are realistic oil or watercolor paintings that capture people going about their daily lives, such as a painting depicting a group of elderly gamers playing mahjong.

The exhibition is scheduled to end on December 15.
