It is reported that the Beijing Military Area Command (MAC) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) has equipped all the frontier defense companies with digital multimedia receiving devices and satellite TV receiving equipment, allocated digital movie screening equipment to 60% of units at or above the regiment level, and distributed self-developed company intelligent broadcasting system to all frontier defense companies.
At present, all the frontier defense officers and men in the Gobi Desert of northern territory can have access to 46 sets of TV programs, 38 sets of digital stereo radio programs and more than 30 high definition (HD) digital movies on average every year.
The Beijing MAC developed and allocated a series of cultural equipment to grassroots units; an MAC cultural website was established, with more than 8,000 movies uploaded and over 20 sets of network TV programs initiated and broadcasted online all day; a 24-hour service hotline was set up to provide maintenance service to help officers and men resolve various technical problems encountered while using the equipment.
Wang Lianyou, head of the cultural workstation of the Beijing MAC, told the reporters that in the next step, the Beijing MAC will establish an emergency storehouse for cultural equipment, an online base for providing informationized cultural services as well as an equipment support base in a bid to form a fast and three-dimensional system of cultural service support, so that the Beijing MAC can utilize cultural soft power to promote the combat effectiveness of the troops.
