On the afternoon of January 17, 2012, local time, the first Chinese peacekeeping engineer detachment to the Republic of South Sudan conducted emergency response and defense drill immediately after it took over the peacekeeping mission, in a bid to examine and improve the security defense and emergency handling capability of its officers and men.
The first Chinese peacekeeping engineer detachment to South Sudan is composed of 338 servicemen and all of them come from the Jinan Military Area Command (MAC) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.
Since January 16, 2012 when the shift was completed, the 338 officers and men have taken over all peacekeeping missions.
