Shenyang MAC updates cold-proof equipment

Right after the Spring Festival of 2012, a reconnaissance detachment of a troop unit under the Shenyang Military Area Command (MAC) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) conducted the field reconnaissance training in the chilly wind at the foot of the Changbai Mountains. Instead of wearing thick and heavy fur coats as they had done in the past, the officers and men just wore a new type of much thinner cold-proof clothing in the frozen and snow-covered open land.

A leader of a disease prevention and control center under the Shenyang MAC told the reporters that the equipment developed for cold protection in the open field has greatly enhanced the troops' combat capability against coldness in winter.

Wearing the new cold-proof clothing, the reporters followed the reconnaissance detachment on an ambush in the snowfield. To their great surprise, although according to the thermometer, the lowest temperature reached -26℃, they felt increasingly warm rather than cold during the 2-hour ambush. Xing Anhui, director of the disease prevention and control center of the Shenyang MAC, told the reporters that the secret lies in the cloth of the new cold-proof clothing. It is a new type of electric heating cloth made of composite fiber and can be made into various kinds of cold-proof equipment such as coat and sleeping bag. With a cold-resistant battery, the cloth can provide heating for 4 consecutive hours and the temperature is even adjustable as desired.
