The second round selection of 2012 flying cadets in east China's Jiangsu Province started at the Nanjing selection center of the flying cadet recruitment bureau of the Air Force of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) on February 10, 2012.

The PLA Air Force sets ten second-round selection stations in Shenyang, Beijing, Shijiazhuang, Lanzhou, Jinan, Nanjing, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Changsha and Chengdu for over 20,000 first-selection-qualified college and high school students from 30 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities nationwide.

The second round selection focuses on such contents as qualification confirmation, physical examination, psychological selection, political examination and cultural assessment. The students need three days to go through all the procedures.

It is reported that the PLA Air Force started to cultivate top flying cadets with Tsinghua University from 2011. Each year, the Air force sends 50 flying cadets selected from high school recruits to Tsinghua University for three-year basic education, and then to the Air Force Aviation University for one-year flying course. The Air Force also plans to rely on Peking University and Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics to recruit and cultivate national defense students from 2012.
