On the evening of February 10, 2012, Cheng Furui, a soldier from the Yongxing Island air field and station of the aviation force of the South China Sea Fleet under the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), was attacked by acute myocarditis. The Xisha Hospital of the Chinese PLA Navy immediately initiated air rescue procedure after preliminary diagnosis.
A helicopter of an flight regiment of the aviation force under the South China Sea Fleet landed at an airport on the Xisha Islands in less than two hours and delivered the patient to No.425 Hospital in Sanya city, Hainan province without delay. It was the second time this year that the aviation force under the South China Sea Fleet sent a helicopter to the Xisha Islands for rescue.
After years of efforts, a three-dimensional medical system with the functions of local treatment, remote consultation and air rescue has been established on the Xisha Islands, setting up a "green channel" to safeguard the health of officers and men on the Xisha Islands.
Major events in medical support development on the Xisha Islands:
In 1975, a flight regiment of the aviation force of the South China Sea Fleet of the PLA Navy flew to the Xisha Islands successfully for the first time, opening the air route from the Hainan Island to the Xisha Islands.
In 1977, the Xisha Hospital of the PLA Navy was officially set up.
In 2000, a flight regiment of the aviation force of the South China Sea Fleet accomplished the first night flight to the Xisha Islands for rescue.
In 2003, two-way satellite station of the PLA remote medical information network was introduced to the Xisha Islands.
In 2008, the new outpatient building of the Xisha Hospital of the PLA Navy, which is covering 1,200 square meters, was completed and put into service.
In 2010, the remote medical center of the General Hospital of the PLA Navy was officially launched, realizing remote docking with the Xisha Hospital of the PLA Navy.
