Platform for air defense project construction established

The Logistics Department of the Air Force of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) and Wuhan University of Technology (WUT) jointly held a signing ceremony on April 8, 2012 in Wuhan, capital of Hubei Province, to sign the Cooperation Agreement on Scientific and Innovative Platform for Military-civil Integrated Air Defense Project Construction at Air Force Level, and unveiled the just-established "PLA Air Force-WUT Protective Technology Research Institute of Air Defense Project Construction."

According to Zhu Hongda, director of the PLA Air Force Logistics Department, based on the principle of "reducing investment, drawing more support and being mutually beneficial," the PLA Air Force and WUT will take advantage of this platform to carry out joint innovations in such fields as basic protection theories of air defense project construction, research and development of application technology, cultivation of specialized talents, research on air force project structures and research on camouflage and protective materials.

The Air Force Project Construction Bureau under the Guangzhou Military Area Command (MAC) of the PLA and WUT jointly established the military project technology research institute in May 2001, which has gained a series of achievements in scientific research by making use of state key laboratories including the State Key Laboratory of Advanced Technology for Materials Synthesis and Processing to participate in research on air defense project protection technologies, and it is now capable to be upgraded to a scientific and innovative platform for military-civil integrated air defense project construction, Zhu Hongda said.
