China's first state key laboratory of aerospace medicine foundation and application passed the acceptance check by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MST) of the People's Republic of China (PRC) on the morning of April 10, 2012 in Beijing, marking that the technology-advanced and characteristics-distinct research system of aerospace medicine was preliminarily established, which will provide significant support for astronauts' healthy flights in space.
Relying on the Astronaut Center of China, as the only one laboratory in China which comprehensively conducts aerospace medicine researches, the state key laboratory of aerospace medicine foundation and application was approved and initiated by the MST in September 2009.
According to the briefing, by closely centering on China's strategic demand for manned space flight and aiming at securing astronauts' healthy survival and efficient performance, the laboratory has carried out researches on four respects since its establishment, namely the mechanism of physiological effects of weightlessness and its countermeasures, biological effects of space radiation, theory and technology of astronauts' health maintenance and space experimental technology of aerospace medicine. It has undertaken altogether 76 projects including the 973 Program, the 863 Program and advanced researches on manned space flight.
