Chinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie on Tuesday evening held a short consultative meeting with the ASEAN defense ministers to enhance relations and cooperation.
"During the meeting, His Excellency Chinese Defense Minister ( Liang Guanglie) hailed good cooperation between China and ASEAN and said that both sides should continue good traditional ties to build a region of peace, stability, cooperation and prosperity," Neang Phat, the secretary of state at Cambodia's Defense Ministry, said after the 45-minute meeting.
Speaking in a dinner reception for ASEAN's and Chinese defense ministers after the meeting, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Tea Banh said the meeting brought a great success for the bilateral cooperation between ASEAN and China.
"The meeting was short, but it created the great close cooperation between ASEAN and China," he said. "With the good relationship, we believe that each of the countries will have great development together."
Liang arrived here on Sunday for a four-day official visit at the invitation of Tea Banh. During the stay, he had inked a military cooperation pact with Tea Banh and paid a courtesy call on Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen.
He also visited Angkor Archeological Park, one of the world heritage sides, in Siem Reap province.
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) group Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
