Chinese peacekeeping detachment wins award in S. Sudan

Nicholas Von Ruben, director of the mission-support department of the United Nations Mission in the Republic of South Sudan (UNMISS), conferred the "Peace Contribution Award" on the first Chinese peacekeeping engineer detachment to the Republic of South Sudan and the "Special Contribution Award" on 11 officers and men including Wang Zhonghua, commanding officer of the detachment, on May 28, 2012, local time,so as to commend them for their contributions to peaceful reconstruction of South Sudan.

The peacekeeping engineer detachment has completed 41 engineering tasks in high standards such as the first-phase construction of the Marple DDR (Disarmament, Demobilization and Resettlement) and the peripheral road construction of the Wau Airport in the past more than four months since it was deployed to the Wau mission area of South Sudan on January 11, 2012.
