Jing Zhiyuan, member of China's Central Military Commission, met with Indonesian Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro in Jakarta on Monday. The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on bilateral relations and other issues of common concern.
Jing, who is also the commander of the Second Artillery Force of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, said China-Indonesia relations have developed rapidly in recent years, evidenced by enhanced political mutual trust, economic and trade cooperation and effective communication and cooperation in various areas.
Jing said the two armies have further deepened their cooperation in high-level visits, defense consultations, personnel training, military drill, defense industries and other fields. "China will continue to work with Indonesia to enhance the friendly ties and pragmatic cooperation to push for the comprehensive and sustainable development of the strategic partnership between China and Indonesia," he said.
Reaffirming Indonesia's adherence to the China-friendly policies, Purnomo Yusgiantoro said positively about China's important status and role in international and regional affairs.
Indonesia and China both are important countries in Asia, and developing strategic partnership relations are in the interests of both sides, he said, adding that Indonesia is willing to increase the communication and cooperation with China, to strength the friendly exchanges between the defense departments and armies and to contribute to the common development, peace and security of the region.
Jing arrived in Jakarta on Sunday for an official friendly visit as guest of the Defense Ministry of Indonesia.
