The activity entitled "Academicians' Barracks Tour", which was jointly organized by the General Political Department (GPD) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) for the first time and specifically hosted by the PLA General Armaments Department and the PLA Air Force, successfully ended on June 18, 2012 at a test and training base of the PLA Air Force.
Xu Qiliang, member of the Central Military Commission (CMC) of the People's Republic of China and commander of the PLA Air Force, attended and addressed the farewell ceremony.
In his speech, Xu Qiliang pointed out that the activity has opened a way through which the academicians and experts can further understand and be well acquainted with the PLA Air Force, and has also built a bridge for military-civilian integration in cultivating high-tech talents.
A total of 30 academicians from the Division of Mechanical and Vehicle Engineering, the Division of Information and Electronic Engineering and the Division of Engineering Management under the CAE observed the actual-troop confrontation exercise of the troop units of the PLA Air Force on the morning of June 18. The exercise aimed at actual combat, was based on confrontation between systems in complex battlefield and electromagnetic environment and focused on identifying and solving problems.
During the four-day-long investigation and study, the academicians offered a considerable number of profound insights on the development of weaponry and equipment as well as the personnel cultivation of the PLA.
