Ng Eng Hen, minister for defense of the Republic of Singapore, and his party totaling 16 visited the South China Sea Fleet of the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) on the afternoon of June 19, 2012.
Jiang Weilie, commander of the South China Sea Fleet, presided over the welcoming ceremony and held talks with Ng Eng Hen. Jiang Weilie recalled the friendly contacts between the two navies, especially between the South China Sea Fleet and the Singaporean Navy, and expressed willingness to make positive efforts to further develop the friendly and pragmatic exchange and cooperation between the two navies.
Ng Eng Hen spoke highly of the excellent performance made by the Chinese naval escort taskforce in its escort missions in the Gulf of Aden, and expressed that he is looking forward to Chinese naval ship's next visit to Singapore.
After the meeting, Ng Eng Hen and his party visited a marine brigade as well as the "Yuncheng" guided missile frigate of the Chinese Navy.
