The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) is currently accelerating the building of the army aviation force in a bid to establish an information-based talent system suitable for the rapid development of the army aviation force during the 12th Five-Year Plan period (2011-2015) so as to provide talent support to the realization of the strategic transformation of the PLA army aviation force from the "singular type to the composite type, and from the support type to the major-combat assault type", the reporters learnt from the talent cultivation symposium of the PLA army aviation force held on July 17, 2012.
"Currently, the troop units of the PLA army aviation force still have such talent training issues as the imperfect system, irrational structure, unsmooth mechanism and so on. They do not fully meet the requirements for the PLA's strategic transformation in the new era and for winning the information-based wars. Accelerating the cultivation of information-based talents for the PLA army aviation force and pushing forward the transformation of its generating mode of combat power is the only way for the development of the PLA army aviation force," said Tao Binglan, president of the PLA Army Aviation Academy.
The army aviation force is universally stressed by the world's military powers. It is also a new growth point for PLA Army's combat power.
The PLA army aviation force was first established in 1986 and has gradually developed into a low-altitude force that integrates peacetime application and wartime application, and serves both military and civilian purposes. During the 20-plus years since its establishment, the troops of the PLA army aviation force have accomplished outstanding performance and played important roles in such significant operations as the earthquake fighting and disaster relief work in Wenchuan, the international rescue in Pakistan, the 60th national anniversary parade in Beijing, and the recovery of the Shenzhou-series spacecrafts among others.
