South Sudan thanks Chinese peacekeeping engineers

The 1st Chinese peacekeeping engineer detachment to the Republic of South Sudan received a letter of thanks from William Deng Deng, chairperson of the South Sudan Disarmament, Demobilization and Resettlement (DDR) Commission, to Ambassador Li Baodong, China's permanent representative to the United Nations (UN) on August 3, 2012, local time.

In his letter, William Deng Deng expressed that the Chinese peacekeeping engineer detachment made great efforts to construct the DDR project in Marple area of Gharb Bahr al Ghazal under tough conditions and was well received by local people. He expressed his gratitude to the Chinese peacekeeping engineer detachment for its efforts to support the planning of the South Sudan DDR project on behalf of the South Sudan government and the DDR Commission.

The Marple DDR construction project is a transition camp established by the UN to help South Sudan veterans to acquire basic living and working skills as well as quickly integrate themselves with the society.
