The military pentathlon delegation of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) valorously won the men's and women's team championship titles in the 59th Military Pentathlon World Championship held in Lahti of southern Finland on August 18, 2012, realizing "17 consecutive championships" for the men's team and "12 consecutive championships" for the women's team.
The 59th Military Pentathlon World Championship kicked off in Lahti on the evening of August 14 with nearly 200 contestants from 32 countries participating in it. After 4 days of competition, the Chinese delegation won both the men's and women's team championships, and swept the top four prizes in female individual events.
The Military Pentathlon World Championship, hosted by the International Military Sports Council (CISM) and held once a year, comprises five military competition subjects of 300-meter large-caliber rifle shooting, 500-meter obstacle running, 50-meter obstacle swimming, grenade precision throwing and distance throwing, and men's 8,000-meter and women's 4,000-meter cross-country running.
