The 15th session of the National Defense Mobilization Committee of the Nanjing Military Area Command (MAC) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) was held on August 26, 2012 in Nanjing, capital city of east China's Jiangsu province.
At the session, Liang Guanglie, member of the Central Military Commission (CMC) of the People's Republic of China (PRC), state councilor and minister of national defense, and deputy director of the National Defense Mobilization Committee of the PRC, and Ma Kai, state councilor and secretary-general of the State Council, and deputy director of the National Defense Mobilization Committee of the PRC, attended and addressed the meeting.
Liang Guanglie pointed out that the strategic significance of strengthening the militia work should be fully understood at all levels. The militia work should always be firmly placed in strategic positions with increased technological contents in its organization, structure, equipment and training so as to strengthen the militia's capability of task performance and make unified plans for strengthening the militia's emergency combat readiness construction.
Ma Kai pointed out that the national defense mobilization is an important aspect of the national defense construction, which serves as a strategic project to accumulate national strength and consolidate national defense during peacetime. It is related to the overall situation of the national security as well as the economic and social development. As an important aspect of national defense construction, the construction of militias takes an important position and plays a significant role in the national security and the overall development strategy.
Sun Jianguo, deputy chief of general staff of the PLA and secretary-general of the National Defense Mobilization Committee, Zhao Keshi, commander of the Nanjing MAC, Chen Guoling, political commissar of the Nanjing MAC, leaders from the six provinces (municipalities) of East China, and comrades from relevant government and military departments also attended the meeting.
