The opening ceremony of the Aviation University of Air Force (AUAF) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) and the 2nd Jilin-Changchun Aviation Festival was held on September 1, 2012 in Changchun, capital of northeast China's Jilin province.
A total of 87 students from the Tsinghua University, the Peking University and the Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (BUAA) were admitted to the AUAF this year as new pilot cadets.
According to the main leaders of the PLA Air Force, to achieve "strategic marriage" with domestic first-class universities and jointly cultivate high-caliber pilot cadets reflects the new requirements imposed by safeguarding national security interests for the building of PLA Air Force.
After jointly cultivating 32 pilot cadets with the AUAF in the year 2011, the Tsinghua University recruited 32 pilot cadets again this year according to its plan. The Peking University and the BUAA enrolled 25 and 30 flight national defense students respectively from 20-odd provinces and municipalities for the first time.
The 32 pilot cadets recruited by the Tsinghua University will study at the School of Aerospace and Aviation of the Tsinghua University during the first three years, majoring in engineering mechanics and aerospace engineering, and at the AUAF during the fourth year.
The 55 flight national defense students enrolled by the Peking University and the BUAA for the first time will complete their four-year undergraduate education at the two universities. After their graduation, they will be admitted to the AUAF as pilot cadets.
