Protection work of military facilities inspected

The joint inspection team of the state and the general headquarters/departments of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) carried out a seven-day-long law enforcement inspection for the protection work of military facilities in southwest China's Sichuan province from October 9 to 15, 2012. Ma Yifei, head of the inspection team and person in charge of a division under the Operation Department of the General Staff Headquarters (GSH) of the PLA, said that cities like Chengdu and Mianyang paid much attention to the protection work of military facilities of national defense science and technology industries, which is a positive practice and lesson for the military facility protection nationwide.

Sichuan province houses a large number of multi-type military facilities with many core units widely distributed in the province. Thus, the contradiction between economy-social development and the protection of military facilities is prominent and difficult to compromise.

The inspection team visited 11 important military facilities of five categories, namely the command protection projects, military airports, radar technical reconnaissance positions, national defense enterprises and military barracks, and held discussions with representatives from member units of local military facility protection committee, garrison troop units and national defense enterprises.

In recent years, the Military Facility Protection Committee of Sichuan Province has removed more than ten threats to military facilities and effectively protected the military facilities in more than 800 places in the province. In particular, it brought the reconstruction and protection work of military facilities into the unified planning of provincial reconstruction efforts after the Wenchuan earthquake, having provided over 430 million yuan for troop units stationed in Sichuan province, armed police force, militia and reserve force, helped 27 barracks heavily impaired of the units at division and regiment levels relocate, and renovated 92 troop units at and above regiment level.
