Qi Jianguo, deputy chief of general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), met with Kari Takanen, director of the Planning and Policy Bureau under the Finnish National Defense General Staff, and his party, who came to China to attend the 5th working dialogue between the Chinese and Finnish general staff headquarters, on the morning of November 5, 2012.
Qi Jianguo expressed that although China and Finland are geographically far apart, the people of the two countries enjoy a time-honored friendship. The Chinese side regards Finland as a reliable partner, and is willing to make joint efforts with the Finnish side to promote the friendly and mutually beneficial cooperative relations between the two countries to a new high, so as to bring benefits to their people. In recent years, high-ranking officers of the Chinese and Finnish militaries have exchanged frequent visits when the mechanism exchanges have also been constantly improved and the exchanges in professional fields have been expanded gradually. The Chinese side attaches importance to the friendly and cooperative relations between the two militaries, and is convinced that the relations between the two militaries are bound to constantly make new progress with the efforts of both sides.
Takanen said that the two militaries have been maintaining close contacts and cooperation in recent years, which is conducive not only to their respective military building but also to world peace and stability.
