The Macao Garrison of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) participated in an unpaid blood donation organized by the Health Bureau of the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) government on November 5, 2012. More than 100 officers and men of the PLA Macao Garrison donated blood of over 40,000 milliliters on the very day. This is the 13th time for the officers and men of the PLA Macao Garrison to participate in the unpaid blood donation.
Zhang Sumei, chief of the Director's Office of the Social and Cultural Department of the MSAR government, presented a letter of thanks to the PLA Macao Garrison. Li Zhanrun, director of the Health Bureau of the MSAR government, appreciated the officers and men of the PLA Macao Garrison for their active participation in the unpaid blood donation.
Since the handover of sovereignty over Macao to China in 1999, the PLA Macao Garrison has been actively participating in the social welfare activities including voluntary tree-planting, voluntary blood donation and donation to the Public Welfare Funds every year while performing its duty of Macao defense. A total of over 1,200 officers and men of the PLA Macao Garrison have successively donated blood of 390,000 milliliters in the past 12 years.
