The China Seismological Bureau and the Mapping and Navigation Bureau of the General Staff Headquarters (GSH) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) signed an agreement on November 6, 2012 in Beijing on cooperation in jointly improving China's support capabilities of anti-quake and disaster reduction as well as mapping and navigation.
According to the agreement, the two sides will rely on their respective advantages in space information, science and technology, infrastructure and talent pool to launch cooperation in jointly developing China's ground comprehensive observation network of its global satellite positioning system, and jointly undertaking national science and technology research tasks in a bid to push forward the R&D and application of China's satellite navigation and positioning system and its products, and enhance quick access to earthquake disaster information based on aerospace platforms and the information's application in such work as earthquake emergency rescue, mapping and navigation.
Meanwhile, the two sides will also work together to tackle major key issues shared in anti-quake and disaster reduction, and military mapping and navigation, so as to minimize the loss caused by earthquakes.
