Defense Minister Liang Guanglie on Friday met with his visiting Latvian counterpart, Artis Pabriks, and the two sides expressed the hope to strengthen military ties between the two countries.

Liang hailed the healthy and smooth development of relations between China and Latvia in recent years, adding that new progress has been made in military-to-military ties thanks to the joint efforts of the two sides.

He recalled his visit to Latvia in May and expressed his thanks for Pabriks' warm reception.

Liang expressed the hope that the two sides can further explore their exchange potential, expand cooperation and increase mutual visits.

According to Pabriks, China plays an important role in safeguarding international and regional stability and prosperity.

Latvia is positive about further bilateral cooperation between the two militaries, he said, noting that the Latvian side is willing to make joint efforts with China to strengthen pragmatic cooperation and promote common development.
