One hundred officers and men of the 3rd echelon of the 1st Chinese peacekeeping contingent to South Sudan wrapped up their peacekeeping missions and arrived at the Xinzheng International Airport in central China's Henan province by air on the morning of November 24, 2012. Up to now, the 338 officers and men of the 1st Chinese peacekeeping contingent to South Sudan have all returned home.

The 338 officers and men, who were selected from a joint logistics sub-department and a division under the Jinan Military Area Command (MAC) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), have all won the UN Peace Medal of Honor. Maj. Gen. Moses Bisong Obi, force commander of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), commented on the work done by the Chinese peacekeepers at the medal-conferring ceremony that "The Chinese engineer detachment and medical detachment have done outstanding jobs, and they are the peacekeeping ambassadors sent by the Chinese government!"
