China, Slovakia to enhance military cooperation

China and Slovakia agreed to enhance military-to-military cooperation as senior officials of the two countries' armed forces held meetings in Beijing on Thursday.

Fang Fenghui, chief of the General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), said during talks with his Slovak counterpart Peter Vojtek that the PLA is ready to work with the Slovak Armed Forces to further exchanges and cooperation.

It is the common expectation of the two sides to deepen military-to-military exchanges, Fang said.

Fang also briefed the guests on the PLA's recent development. The PLA will always safeguard China's sovereignty, security, territorial integrity and peaceful development, he said.

State Councilor and Defense Minister Liang Guanglie also met with Vojtek on Thursday.

Liang hailed the recent development of China-Slovakia cooperation, noting that China is willing to further enhance mutual beneficial cooperation with Slovakia on the basis of mutual respect and equality.

The Chinese side is ready to work with the Slovak side to strengthen military-to-military friendship, according to the defence minister.

Vojtek said at the meetings that the Slovak Armed Forces is willing to increase visits and exchanges with the Chinese side and expand pragmatic cooperation in various fields.
