China and Australia held their 15th Strategic Defence Consultation here on Thursday, with both military leaderships exchanging views on international and regional security issues of common concern as well as bilateral military relations.

The Consultation was co-chaired by Fang Fenghui, chief of the General Staff of the People's Liberation Army of China and David Hurley, chief of the Defense Force of Australia.

Fang hailed the healthy and stable development of the two countries' military relations and praised pragmatic cooperation between the two units in various fields including training, education and logistics.

Fang, also a member of the Central Military Commission of the Communist Party of China, noted that both militaries should strengthen mutual understanding and trust, maintain high-level visits and strategic dialogue, continue pragmatic cooperation and enhance personnel training so as to promote the relationship between the two militaries as well as the two countries.

Hurley said he hoped to enhance cooperation with China on strategic dialogue, communication and non-traditional security issues to upgrade the level of cooperation between the two militaries.

Prior to their meeting, Fang held a welcoming ceremony for Hurley.

The consultation has been held regularly in both countries since 1997.
