Waste of food should be curbed in army

Numerous banquets under various names are increasing at the turn of the year, causing waste of food that should not be overlooked. On the occasion of the upcoming Spring Festival of 2013, the Chinese Year of Snake, it is imperative to vigorously advocate the concept of frugality and resolutely curb the bad practice of waste.

Statistics show that food wasted by Chinese people on the table every year costs up to 200 billion yuan, with the throw-away food equivalent to the amount consumed by over 200 million people in one year. However, in a stark contrast to this, there are still more than 100 million rural recipients of the Poverty Alleviation Program and tens of millions of poor urban residents as well as numerous needy groups. Such an extravagance phenomenon of startling waste is but distressing.

Keeping the style of hard struggle and plain living and building the army in an industrious and thrifty way serve as a fine tradition of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA). Whether the Party members and soldiers can be proud of industrious work and thrifty life and ashamed of extravagance and dissipation not only directly reflects their living styles and mental states but also intensively tests their value orientation and pursuit of ideas.

As a saying goes, "an extravagant person is insatiable of fortune while a thrifty person content with poverty", we should start from now to resolutely oppose any conduct of extravagance and dissipation.
