Top Chinese political advisor Jia Qinglin on Friday attended a symposium marking the centenary of the birth of former general Hong Xuezhi.

Hong was a former member and deputy secretary-general of the Central Military Commission (CMC) and former head of the General Logistics Department of the People's Liberation Army (PLA). He was also a vice chairman of the Seventh and Eighth National Committees of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

He died on Nov. 20, 2006, at the age of 94.

Fan Changlong, vice chairman of the CMC reviewed the life of the former general at the symposium.

He stressed the glorious traditions and fine working style of the Communist Party of China (CPC). He said the PLA should be promoted to build an army that is loyal to the Party and will contribute to safeguarding the nation's sovereignty, security and development interests.

Jia is chairman of the National Committee of the CPPCC. The event was presided over by Wang Gang, vice chairman of the National Committee of the CPPCC.
