Chief of General Staff of China's People's Liberation Army, General Fang Fenghui, is scheduled to meet his American counterpart during his tour of the US which begins in San Diego on Tuesday.
Fang has been invited to tour US military facilities by General Martin Dempsey, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, who met Fang in China last year. Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby said last week that the US 3rd Fleet is hosting Fang, who will tour the aircraft carrier the USS Ronald Reagan and the high-speed, triple-hauled Littoral Combat Ship USS Coronado. He will also visit a US Marine Corps recruit depot.
The two generals will meet on Thursday at the Pentagon, where they are expected to discuss the increasingly complex security situation in the Asia-Pacific region.
