The officers and men of the 12th Chinese peacekeeping contingent to Lebanon were awarded with the UN Peace Medal of Honor on July 29, 2014, local time, in honor of their contributions to the peacekeeping operations in south Lebanon.

Major General Luciano Portolano, commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNFIL), delivered a speech at the awarding ceremony, fully acknowledging the contributions made by the 12th Chinese peacekeeping contingent to local peace in Lebanon, and speaking highly of China's important role in international peacekeeping operations.

"The Chinese peacekeeping force is of top quality, outstanding skills and excellent work style. They set a good example for the UNFIL." Major General Luciano Portolano said.

210 Chinese peacekeepers were awarded with the UN Peace Medal of Honor, including 180 people of the engineer detachment and 30 people of the medical detachment.

Since they arrived at the mission area in south Lebanon at the end of January this year, the officers and men of the 12th Chinese peacekeeping contingent have completed a series of tasks assigned by the UNFIL, including mine clearing, boundary marking, road construction and medical treatment. They have been commended by the UNFIL for 18 times in succession.
