The first meeting of the joint directing department of the "Peace Mission - 2014" joint anti-terrorism exercise was recently held, marking the exercise has entered the joint preparation stage.
Wang Ning, deputy chief of general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) and general director of the exercise, hosted the meeting. Deputy general directors including Jushiekeyev, deputy chief of general staff of Kazakhstan, Caparov, deputy chief of general staff of Kyrgyzstan, Chirike, deputy commander of the Russia's Eastern Military District, and Khairulloyev, deputy chief of general staff of Tajikistan, attended the meeting.
During the meeting, Wang Ning briefly reviewed the major achievements of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in the past 13 years since the SCO established.
He pointed out that the exercise is a practical action to implement the consensus reached by the heads of member states of the SCO and the Shanghai Convention on Combating Terrorism, Separatism and Extremism, as well as the outline of the cooperation.
The exercise is a necessary move to tackle the increasingly prominent issue of terrorism.
He believed that the exercise is of great significance to strengthen member states' strategic mutual trust, deepen the defense and cooperation in the security field, enhance joint anti-terrorism capabilities, deter the "three evil forces", safeguard regional security and stability and promote world peace and development.
Currently, all parties to participate in the exercise are preparing for commanding and actual-troop exercise as planned and launch task-oriented consultations and on-the-site survey.
