The records of violations of military discipline by military personnel and military vehicles in public places in Beijing have sharply dropped in 2014 by 60 percent compared with the records in 2012, PLA Daily learned a few days ago from a meeting held by a committee responsible for supervision of military discipline and traffic safety of the troops stationed in Beijing.
According to a responsible officer of the PLA Beijing Garrison, since last year, the garrison has tightened the monitoring on important occasions, such as holidays and festivals, the annual session periods of the National People's Congress (NPC) and the Chinese Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and the 2014 APEC economics leaders' week in Beijing, paying special attention to the inspection and punishment of the violations of laws and disciplines by military personnel and military vehicles.
For example, if military vehicles appear at the luxury consuming sites, use alarm lamps and alarming apparatuses without authorization, run the red light, and take the forbidden roads, the drivers of these military vehicles will be punished, the officer explained.
The PLA Beijing Garrison will crack down on military-related counterfeiting activities and punish with zero tolerance and lenience such serious violations of laws and disciplines as unlicensed military vehicles, drunk driving and hit-and-run driving.
For the next step, the military units stationed in Beijing will exercise regularized supervision and control over such problems as unauthorized use of military vehicle license plates, taking military vehicles for private use, and unauthorized installation and use of alarm lamps and sirens.
