The remains of the Chinese People's Volunteer (CPV) martyrs newly unearthed in the ROK started to be coffined in Paju City, Gyeonggi-do, the ROK, on March 16. The remains handover ceremony will be held on March 20.
Representatives from the Chinese side including Du Nongyi, China's national defense military attaché to the ROK, held a memorial activity at the site where the remains of the CPV martyrs were coffined.
The 68 CPV martyrs' remains to be handed over to the Chinese side were unearthed in 2014 in different places in Paju City, where fierce battles occurred during the Korean War, according to sources.
The ROK side handed over 437 CPV martyrs' remains to the Chinese side for the first time in March 2014. China and the ROK agreed in February 2015 that, following the principle of humanitarianism, the two sides will discuss and attend to the handover work for the newly found CPV martyrs' remains before the Chinese Tomb-sweeping Day every year.
