The Shepherd Su Wu by Chen Zihe, from the Ming Dynasty (1368 AD-1644 AD)When it comes to the shepherd in Chinese culture, Su Wu was typical to most Chinese. He was a Chinese diplomat and statesman of the Han Dynasty (202 BC-220 AD). Su Wu was known for his mission into a foreign territory where he was detained for 19 years. However, he endured all the hardships while remaining faithful to his mission and his homeland. Su was often regarded as the epitome of faithful service in light of great odds and trials. His story often became the subject of drama, poetry, and songs in Chinese history. Paintings were no exception. [Photo/Xinhua]
