"To blindly pressure and impose sanctions on Iran are not constructive approaches," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson's office said in a written reply to Xinhua Thursday.
China has consistently advocated settlement of international disputes through dialogue and consultation, according to the office.
China hopes relevant parties will take approaches which are conducive to regional peace and stability, said the statement.
The European Union on Monday agreed to place an embargo on Iran's oil exports, and to introduce a number of other financial sanctions. Xinhua had asked the office for a comment on the action.
